Although I say go for the FW/USB2.0 drives you are looking at

Typically me I ask first then and end up trying something as I can't wait for an answer (no patience me...)

I tried connecting my HP :o/ FW/USB2 DVD/RW to the USB port
on my MDD and Toast recognised it fine, so I'm presuming that
a hard drive would be no different.
