Are you running the native OS X version or the old MacOS version under
Classic? I daily run the OS X version and never noticed any slowdown. In
fact, I'm amazed at how fast it flies under OS X!

Hmmm, no idea here. You mean, you set the settings so that the computer goes
to sleep only after a long delay? I have very conservative settings, like
screen dims after 1.5 minute and system goes to sleep after 3 minutes and I
haven't noticed any slowdown, although I'm not sure if and when I might have
used Word when running off the battery. Do you have the latest version of
Word, SR1 or 10.1.4? Word X, right?
