Apple Japan wants $500.00 to repair my Lombard. By the symptoms I described they think it's the Logic Board.
Why don't I just buy a new one?
Please correct me if I am inaccurate.
1. Lombard has a SCSI port. I connect my Microtek scanner & Yamaha CDRW via SCSI.
2. I use a Serial port/USB adapter for my Epson Printer. I also can use the USB/Paralell port adapter
The printer & scanner will not work in OS X. I boot up in OS 9.2 to use them
I have a Firewire PCICMA card .. I connect 2 FW HDDs and a FW CDRW... often the CDRW isn't recognized.. maybe it's the dongle...
The new Powerbooks: Is there an adapter available that allows me to use the scanner and printer via USB? If the newer powerbooks don't boot up in OS 9.2 how can I use the printer and scanner? There are no OS X drivers for them.
What powerbook available today compares to the Lombard? Yes, I realize the new ones are faster, but I need something with at least a 14 inch TFT. iBooks? Maybe.
How much will it cost me?

I too have been having my Lombard crash similar to yours. I believe that since I put 512 ram in it runs too hot. When I take one of the two 256 chips out it runs fine.
