Hi, I also seem to have the same problem only since upgrading to Panther from Jaguar on my Pismo. I get the 'Disconnect' as described when my ISP times out my dial-up connection and rather then restart you can pull the plug on the phone connection for about 10 seconds then re-plug and it sorts itself. This is inconvenient but if anyone has a solution then help would be appreciated, regards, James Bryan

Listas,
I am having trouble with my Pismo when connecting via modem under 10.3. Often it quits the connection process, then I get an interminable "Disconnecting" message which only can be cured by shutting down & restarting. Anyone seen this problem & have a solution?

BTW, below is what I was trying to say yesterday, hope it displays correctly this time.

I read somewhere that g5's will never be used in powerbooks, because they
are just too hot for such. this is why they went to so much trouble with
the cooling system in the g5 desktop.

They might be able to get a G5 into a PB by dropping the speed of the chip, which also allows them to drop the voltage. To a certain extent, the power dissipation is a function of the square of the CPU speed. i.e. 1/2 the CPU speed = approx 1/4 the heat to get rid of.
I imagine even a slowish 64 bit Powerbook would have significant advantages over a 32 bit, for quite a few applications anyway.

I don't think Apple can have any serious problems with cooling. I offered them a cooler I designed which gets 3 times the cooling effect (tested) compared size for size with a conventional laptop cooler. My desktop cooler runs around 0.17 degrees C/W, prototype laptop cooler about 1.6.

They didn't want to sign my non disclosure agreement, and replied that 'They were already working on another technology' (which was a bit hard to fathom, considering that they had not seen mine!)

Either that, or they didn't believe my claims, and thought it best to humour me.

Stuart.
