If you have had trouble with a 2001+ iBook, you might want to check this out.

The Dual-USB iBook is overall an excellent design, but a serious problem with logic boards has become apparent. One of my clients bought an iBook G3 a year ago which had to go back to Apple three times due to logic board failure; finally it was replaced with a new G4 -- which I hear is now giving her trouble as well. I bought two iBooks for clients last month -- a 700MHz factory refurb (with 1-year warranty, I made sure) from SmallDog, and a new 933MHz G4 -- and _both_ have experienced logic board failures within two weeks _after_ I spent 10+ hours setting up each and passed them on to the new owners. One failed in the Brazilian outback (Manaus), which necessitated an expensive flight to Rio de Janeiro for the very annoyed owner.

Charles Moore has posted "An Appeal For Apple To Do The Right Thing About iBook Logic Board Failures" at MacOpinion <http://www.macopinion.com/columns/roadwarrior/03/12/16/index.html>, including links to a petition and a class-action suit effort.
