Nope, you are correct. The Pismo has two 6-pin (powered) firewire ports which will work fine with the iPod mini (I don' t have a mini so this is assuming that the mini does in fact require 6-pin firewire ports).

Are you sure? I thought every firewire port on macs was the 6-pin type (I never owned a Pismo, though, so maybe someone can correct me if I'm wrong).
