I noticed my daughter's Pismo 400/128 (OS 9.2) was flashing the sleep light
but the apple was lit. I opened it to find a blue screen and the HD running.
Did a restart with Cmd-Ctl-Pwr and screen turned mostly white with a gradient edge to the blue in the upper and right corners.
Had to pull the battery and power cord to stop it (I forgot about reset button).
On restart I get a chime, HD spins up, but only one brief sound of any head
movement. Screen stays black and the external monitor I plugged in also
doesn't light up.
I then remembered the reset switch, held it in for 10 seconds and then
restarted. This time the HD cycled through a normal bootup, but both screens
remain black. I'm guess the video section has fried, but don't know much
about it--like is it separate from the motherboard? Any ideas from these
symptoms would be much appreciated.
I have another pismo I can swap parts with to isolate the component, but
that board looks pretty buried.
thanks,
Jack
If it's the inverter board, that is located under the plastic part that also has the power switch. It's held by tabs on each side, a bent paper clip can be used to pull it off. Let me know if you want to try that and I'll send you a pic of the cover so you can see the tabs.
However, since it doesn't show on an external screen, it sounds like it could be the video on the mobo.
