Sounds sensible, as i really only want to use it for the few things i cant get around using that are windows only..... gotta love that the only people I know who use windows only programs are the US Air Force, and they are sposed to be high tech...

I haven't tried XP on VPC yet, but I have used it on low-powered PC laptops. On a Pentium II 300MHz, XP was acceptable, but only if all of the eye candy is turned off. Still, it was noticeably slower than 2000 on that machine. For example, I could play a DVD (PowerDVD 2.5 - a software decoder) on 2000 and have it very watchable, while under XP with the same software it was a jittery, unwatchable stutter-fest. VPC feels as fast as that 300MHz PII under some tasks, while other things just bog it down quickly. I guess it depends on what part of the emulation it hits, and whether or not it needs virtual memory (emulation FAT32 to emulate RAM = slow). I did install Windows Media Player 9 on VPC and while I can watch film clips (my school website), it is choppy generally not so great. I'm thinking of making another "PC" with Windows 98SE and WMP 9 to get more speed, but will wait until I upgrade my memory and see if that helps enough (I hope).

My recommendation would be Windows 2000, as you won't use this for serious game play anyhow.

Well, that is the sort of use i am going to have, I need to use some programs that I cannot find for mac, like the one the Air Force uses to fill out forms, and other government types of things. I was thinking win2k is good, since that is all they have at my worksite, but since i dont plan on upgrading for a looong time, do you think that Xp will be alot slower? i have your config, but i already got my 512 chip...

I have VPC 6.1 on my 12" 1GHz with Windows 2000 installed. It is a bit slow at times, but I've only got 384MB on my Mac (until my 512MB module arrives from Crucial tomorrow). I use it for Internet Explorer 6, which is required by one website I use for school, and to install music on my Sony MiniDisc, which lacks Macintosh support.

Just for kicks I installed "Age of Empires, and surprise of surprises, it runs pretty well and is VERY playable.

Im thinking of trading in my PC box for VPC, and using it on a g4 12in powerbook DVI, does anyone here have any experience with the speed of VPC on this platform for basic things? (I only need it for a few Programs that dont run on Mac, mostly simple things, and the occasional webpage that balks at a non Winxp machine)
