    Ok, I use SMD and Chicken of the VNC.  It's easy...unless you are going
through routers at either end, in which case, it can be hell setting it up.
Also, and I am pretty sure about this, you will both need broadband
connections.  If I am wrong on this point, someone else please jump in and
say so.

   So, before we get into a lot of detailed, step-by-step stuff:

    1.  Do you both have broadband access?

    2.  Is either of you running a router?

    I can help you IF neither of you is running a router.  If you are,
figuring out how to make SMD/VNC work over a router is beyond my abilities
and I won't be able to help.
