Personal experience.  Of the kind I have described.  And the experience of
clients.  Of the kind I have described.

Why haven't you experienced the problem?  Luck.  In my opinion.  I will
never buy a powerbook again without warranty or extended warranty.  For my
own personal use.  Even though I am a tech and do my own repairs.
