I got a Powerbook G3 Mainstreet/Wallstreet/pdq (its called all these names across the web, but I believe Mainstreet is the "real" name). I have been trying to get an inexpensive wireless solution going. I don't have $80 to go out and buy an Airport card and I heard they have problems anyway. So I invite more problems by trying to get an opensource driver and a D-Link card working. I checked the list of working wireless cards and the D-Link DWL-650 is on it, so I bought one. But there is a hitch, D-Link (in all their wisdom) has been issuing these cards in different revisions, I have the P1. OS X and OS 9 both recognize it as a network card and OS X even calls it a D-Link DWL-650 when I click on the little card near the clock. But I cannot get a driver to work with it or recognize it in any OS.

Has anyone ever tried this driver or another and been successful? Is there another brand that you have had success with? This powerbook has an awesome battery and I would love to take it out writing and hit a few hotspots while I'm at it.

Also, does anyone know some good tweaks to speed up the OS X performance. I put a larger HD in it that was a little faster than the 8GB plus I need the room. I have 2 256MB PC133 sticks in it, but it only sees 128MB out of both. I'm guessing it needs PC100 and probably 2-2-2 for that matter. I toned the graphics down and also put the AA for the fonts on 12 which has helped a bit. So aside from a new CPU anyone know of good tweaks?
