My Pismo 400 (Airport card, extra RAM, no other modifications) has been doing wonderfully until a few months ago. Now, something's loose in the innards. If I even slightly jostle it (even a gentle rotation) or move the screen to adjust the angle - the whole thing seems to freeze. The HD keeps spinning, but the cursor won't move.

I managed to duplicate this failure during login and the small spinning fan/wheel (not the beachball) will abruptly freeze and then - with slight motion - resume spinning but picking up in a nonadjacent place, as though it had been spinning anyway, and that info wasn't going to the screen.

My assumption: a hardware problem with respect to info going to the screen. I took the whole thing apart, replaced the thin little invertor board, removed the screen intact from the back and then reattached it - trying to make sure that all connections were intact. LESS problem, but still a delicate critter, but no problem while sitting static on the desk. I just can't pick it up.

Does this ring a bell? without running it through the Apple folks (multiple hundreds for repair, they think) is this something where I can replace a simple cable or piece myself? I don't have a problem taking the whole thing apart to get to the evilness.

(p.s. Could you take the name calling flame wars to private communication. No one is impressed or even cares, trust me.)

Thanks in advance,
dmax
