When I got my first really useful PowerBook, I faced the same problem with a
bunch of stuff on my B&W. I then found that most of the time, I would work
on my PowerBook but sometimes, I would prefer working on the PowerMac. So,
initially, I started using the OS 9 File Synchronization utility provided
with the OS. It was fine but after a while, I was tired of running Classic,
plus the utility would choke on some special OS X files. So, I went out to
see what synchronization utilities were available for OS X. I found 3 or 4
that would do the job. However, they were whether overpriced or cumbersome
to use. I needed something quick to do the job. Since I did professional
programming on NextStep and later OpenStep beginning in 1992, and since OS X
was basically OpenStep, I set out to write my own synchronization tool for
my own use. When I got it working, I thought that maybe others would be
interested so I started offering it and was surprised by how well it's been
received.

Maybe a shameless plug, but that's the truth and it is how I keep updated
copies of key files on both my PowerBook and my PowerMac. URL in signature
for those interested.
