Just out of curiosity, did you recently use Software Update to install the 10.3.5 patch? I had my first ever kernel panic on my 12" PowerBook (after 18 months of ownership) after installing 10.3.5. It happened when I popped in an audio CD when I had Word X open. I had already repaired permissions after Software Update had done its thing so that wasn't causing the problem. I went ahead and installed the 10.3.5 Combo Update just to be safe and haven't had a problem since. I'd give that a shot if you haven't done it already. Good luck.
