Thanks for your suggestions Laurent. Swapping bits between the old and new Pismos, I have isolated two separate problems; the interminable boot seems to be a HD cable problem, so will try to fix or get a new cable.

But the PMU needs to be reset every time I restart otherwise I don't get any video (black screen). What could this be? Is there any point to reinstall the firmware?
System profiler shows;
Hardware Overview:
Machine Model: PowerBook
CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (11.4)
Number Of CPUs: 1
CPU Speed: 550 MHz
Memory: 768 MB
Bus Speed: 100 MHz
Boot ROM Version: 4.1.8f5

Would appreciate any suggestions,

Thanks,
Stuart.

Can anybody advise WTD?

Does it has the latest firmware? Can you revert back to the older G3 processor? If so, does it start fine? If so, then I would contact the company that makes this G4 upgrade...
