I was a Commodore user and my wife had Apples in school...Always did and still do call it Open Apple..

Same here. What was the "Closed-Apple" became "Option". There is an actual name for the symbol that starts with "quad..." IIRC. However, I haven't seen it for years. Here is a link to HOW and WHY the symbol was selected:
