So: clues for sources of reasonably priced 400MHz processors? Or for an
upgrade card? (Assuming one would work.) I've seen the ones that run
$300+, and I just can't afford that.

Lynn,

Last night I was scrounging the web for spare parts for a Pismo. I saw a used Lombard processor board going for $139. I think is was at Daystar Technology <http://www.daystartechnology.com>. They also do a Lombard G4 upgrade for about $250, but the board has to be OK so I guess your cache problem would rule that out.

Other sources are PowerBook Parts, PowerBookMedic, Baucom Computers etc. Also PowerBook Central which is an aggregator of offerings from various sites.
