iMovie/iDVD and PB 1GHZ processor

I am trying to make some movies for Christmas ... and I have a PB 17" 
1GHz processor w/1GB of RAM.  iDVD takes FOREVER and craps out (the 
media is right about 4GB in size and just under 2 hours) ... is there a 
"limit" on what iDVD should be able to handle (in time, etc.)?  Also, 
anyone know how to pull clips out of the iMovie trash??  Thanks.
