planning to upgrade my system.

I acctually own a PPC 9600/300 and it's getting stucked in time, poor it...
;) So my idea is starting to work with OS X and G4 technology. My
application area is sound/video (Pro Tools basically). So my interest is buying a G4 mac.

The 9600 is a nice box. Don't forget to shop for processor upgrades, in your price comparisons.

Also don't forget things like the iMac G5. MacWorld is coming soon, so the older models will be discounted...

The thing is that I live in Argentina and here it is more
diffcult to get this kind of technology

Local pricing vs Exchange rate vs Customs regulations & fees.

Find out what/how can be shipped to you. That opens a lot of options - eBay, Outpost.com, etc.

I've seen that iBooks are considerably cheaper than Powerbooks. My first
conclusion was "Powerbooks must be more prepared to perform in professional
areas with no touble". But yet a 1GHz iBook is very tempting for me. Then
finally my question: what are the biggest differences between this two
computers?

The iBooks are basic consumer/student machines. Slower system buses, lower-quality screens, etc. The current iBooks seem to run hotter than the PowerBooks too, I noticed (hand on the bottom, in the Apple Store).

The PowerBooks are higher-end equipment, all around.

My personal preference is for PowerBooks. I have two "beefs" with iBooks: 1) their screen's color reproduction isn't as good as it could be. 2) My local repair shop has seen too many that needed the harness between the body and screen repaired.

Really, the bottom line tho, is that you should find a store that sells both and try them out. Specs aside, it's what feels good that matters most.
