This is sold as a Powerbook G3 adaptor, and I was told that it is
suitable for a pismo, but I noticed that it's rated at 65W, whereas the
original Apple adaptor is 45W. I'm fairly sure this is not a problem, but
before I barbecue my Powerbook, can anyone confirm that?

No problem at all. If the adapter supplies 24vdc at the amperage you need, any reserve capacity is gravy.

Note that using a 45W on a 65W book is unlikely to be fatal as well.

a) The PSU only works hard when BOTH recharging a dead battery and running the book.

b) They are switcher supplies; if you DO attempt to pull too much current, it will do two things: get a little warm and reduce its output voltage. As a result, the laptop battery will recharge slowly, or maybe just keep up. One of the 3rd party suppliers [?iGo? maybe] tells you that.
