I think DHCP takes care of this, though. It's hard to figure out your problem. I can only get Appletalk to work one way between my iBook (on wireless) and G5 (wired), the one that mounts the drives can only do the transfers. I never bothered to waste the time to figure out how to get it to work both ways. I can use Appletalk both ways between my Linux boxes and G5, they are both wired.

It does have a different address, every time I look in the information thing it gives the address of every machine connected, and they're not the same. They generally seem to get the same address they got the last time each time they connect, though, so it's more or less static I guess, even though I didn't set it that way specifically.
It would be a good idea to try one of the Networking websites, dslreports.com is a good one. You can find out what problems your particular router is giving other people. Upgrading the firmware can help, or not, it depends.
