I'm not sure that you can run a Pismo closed with or without an external
monitor without a hack of some kind. I ran mine with a 17" VGA monitor with
a spanned desktop. I elevated the Pismo, on a two-bay external HD case, so
that its screen was roughly level with the monitor. This left most of the
bottom exposed although I still had the fan fire up when watching DVDs or
playing games like Baldur's Gate II.
