I am back online after 1 week of DRT* with the dsl angst during which I received an Orinoco Gold Classic Card for my Lombard running 9.1... (yes I could upgrade the OS to 9.2.2 but I haven't had the time)
Therein may be your problem. For some reason my Orinoco Gold Classic Card is recognized as a "WaveLan" card in OS 9.1 on my Wallstreet. But when I upgraded to 9.2.2, it was then recognized as an Airport card. Even the desktop icon changed to that of an Airport card. Go figure.
