Processor would cause something like that. But without trying to be insulting, you did try the easy stuff first before tearing it apart, right? Reseting the power manager and zapping the Pram???
I have a Powerbook 3400 that had it's main battery asnd backup batteries die. And, like you, the power switch wouldn't turn it on and off. Removing teh battery and plugging in while holding the reset keays would give me green light and fan as you described... Reseting teh power manager and keeping it plugged in would usually keep it runnign for a few days before i had to do it all over again.
