I have an iBook 500 with a seemingly defective trackpad, which is running OS 10.3.8. It shows no "Trackpad" category under the "Keyboard & Mouse" control panel. When I plug a USB mouse in, the "Keyboard & Mouse" panel does display a category for "Mouse".
Can this indicate that the OS doesn't see the existence of a (non-functioning?) trackpad, and therefore doesn't display the "Trackpad" portion of the "Keyboard & Mouse" Control Panel? Or, might it be a problem with the OS software? I have a replacement (used and untested) top case with its integral trackpad which I can install, but I'd like advisement first as to whether this scary & involved replacement should be my preferred course to trying to regain trackpad functionality on this machine. I will be grateful for your input. All the best, stanton -- G-Books is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
