When I was at the Apple Store for a problem (it is 85 miles away) a AlBook came in for a customer that had the top replaced and it had a plastic sheet stuck to it for protection during shipping. I would think the Apple Store is your best bet for the best service, even though the drive is a pain.
By the way the Genius Bar diagnosed the problem in about five minutes that I had spent at least five hours on the phone with Applecare for with no success.
