What is the setup? a cable modem with wireless built-in that doesn't
let you config anything? a cable modem with a base station behind it?
I would be surprised if it did not let you change channels;
everything from neighboring base stations to 2.4GHz phones to
microwaves can cause interference on some channels but not others.
Seems like a recipe for incessant calls to tech support.
It is quite possible that someone else's setup is on the same channel
and interfering. You can download "kismac" to scan and show you
everything that is present (the airport scanner doesn't do a very
thorough job). If the base station really doesn't let you config
anything, you can get g base stations for 20-30 after rebates, or
802.11b stations for as little as 10 if you look around. Any of
those would let you configure them properly.
