What kind are they? Lead acid? (I'm not home so I can't check.) I handed in a fair-size (not quite automotive) lead-acid battery from my cordless lawnmower at Sears. They're a drop-off point for the Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation ( http://www.rbrc.org/index.html ) which means they take NiCad & lithium ion & *small* lead-acid, but since they have the automotive center, too, they'll take larger lead-acid batteries.
