Hi, Malcolm!

I just attempted to install (add) OS 9.2.1, starting up from the 9.2.1 disk
which comes as part of the install set of OS X 10.2.

When I get to the screen which asks to choose a disk to install the OS on,
the iBook's HD is not selectable. The message is:

"This version of Mac OS 9.2.1 may not be installed over the system software
on the currently selected volume. Press the "Options. . . " button to
perform a clean installation."

That means it has found a newer version of OS 9 on the disk. Ergo, you don't need to re-install OS 9.
