I wish it did have a "System Folder". A search of the drive found zero items
with or containing that name.

Laurent Daudelin <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> opined:

"I thought that, in any case, you can install 9 after installing X"

If that is correct, if I do a "Clean Install" of OS 9.2.2, will that erase
or inactivate or overwrite the installation of OS X 10.3.8?

I just attempted to install (add) OS 9.2.1 (to the OS X 10.3.8 on which the
iBook is currently running, and is the only OS currently installed on it),
starting up from the 9.2.1 disk which comes as part of the install set of OS
X 10.2.

When I get to the screen which asks to choose a disk to install the OS on,
the iBook's HD is not selectable. The message is:

"This version of Mac OS 9.2.1 may not be installed over the system software
on the currently selected volume. Press the "Options. . . " button to
perform a clean installation."

When I press the Options. . . button, I'm told:

"Perform Clean Installation. Installs a completely new System Jolder that
does not include your third-party extensions, control panels, or fornts.
System software and application preferences are reset to their original
settings."

This message gives me NO indication of whether this installation will wipe
out the installed version of OS X 10.3.8. What do you recommend I do here?

Just a shot in the dark but maybe the OS 9 driver wasn't installed when the
disk was originally erased. Not sure how to test this, though, but I thought
that, in any case, you can install 9 after installing X. If the driver is
really missing, that would mean starting over, erasing, installing 9, then
10.

Are you sure there isn't a "System Folder" on the disk?
