since the new G4 processor boards don't have any cache, does anyone
know if
they still have the pads for it? i'd like to increase my cache up to 4m
(supposedly the board will handle it) and it would be much easier to
add to a "clean" board rather than having to desolder what is already
there. in any case i'll use conductive epoxy to secure the new chips, i
don't know of a good way to rework bga chips (they have a grid of bumps
on the bottom, somewhat of a problem even for some commercial assembly
houses), short of forking out several $k for fancy equipment. i was
thinking maybe i could trade my 733 mhz board with cache for one
without, every one would come out ahead. if anyone in wyoming or
colorado would be interested in the swap mail me off list, obviously
considering the price of these boards we'd want to do it in person.
also i know how to safely remove and replace the boards, i've already
done it on mine since you have to remove the processor board to remove
the logic board.

also, does any one know enough about the firmware and rom image to know
if the os would care?
