The machine-specific issues, I believe, had to do with machines released
after OS X's release, because the version of OS 9.1 in the OS X installer CD
was incompatible with the newer hardware. I don't think this will apply to
a beige G3 - except for the 8GB limitation. (You must install all bootable
partitions in the first 8GB of a hard drive, that's all.)
