I finally unplugged my slave-configured HD, leaving only the master drive (which was a Maxtor 20 gig 7200 rpm (non-Apple, third party). I started by partitioning it with 2 partitions, a 7.5 gig for the first, and a 12 gig for the second. Then, I installed 9.1 on the second partition, restarted, installed 10.0 on the first partition, restarted, installed the 9.2 upgrade on the second partition, then when installing the 10.1 upgrade, I chose the erase and format option, erasing the second partition and installed 10.1 without BSD subsystem. I think the Apple read me files expressly state not to erase your disk when installing 10.1 but I did it anyway (I'd tried every other possible way to install it) and it now works fine. Following this I was able to reconnect by other internal 40 gig IDE hard drive (slave) and everything has been working reliably for a couple of weeks now. If you need more info and this procedure I've described is unclear, please email me and I'll be glad to help. John -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
