More specifically, ftp://username:password@IP address (you can also do a
domain name lookup on your IP address in case you have an easy to remember
name... rather than 124AWQ.noQwapt1.lq15.novascotia826.nowhere.com).

It makes your entire ~/username/ directory available (so everything in
there, including Documents and Desktop) but only if you give out your
username and your password. What I've done is create a separate "guest"
login with a password that I can give out to friends if they need to
transfer files to and from my computer.
