Nick, Thanks for the suggestions. First off I downloaded the latest printer driver and updater from Epson and installed it. This has speeded up the printing selection process considerably and the background monitor is spiffier too. Then I rebooted and lo! the Epson 600 dialog printer screen was there. Even tho the updater etc specified up to OS 9, this seems to work fine with 9.1. So thanks again for your help.
Now if I could just get rid of that roller squeal...
