Don't forget that your iMac cannot boot from an USB CD-ROM or CD-RW, at least that is 
so with the tray-loaders. Dunno if Apple fixed that later on. You need to boot from a 
CD once in a while, to fix a HD crash or to (re-)install s/w, so IMHO you'd better get 
a second hand CD-ROM replacement.
