Please expand on that. Peter. --- end of quote --- I'm going to take a stab at this. There were at least trwo A/V pesonality cards. The original, which came with the earlier G3 Beige machines had fairly low resolution video digitizing capability and could output video too. The DVD card had onboard DVD hardware decoding capabiity (which is now handled in software on the faster machines.) It is also reputed to be capable of higher resolution video encoding and has a better audio system. This card was available with the later (Rev3) Beige machines that also had a DVD drive aboard. I bought a DVD personality card for my G3 minitower , Rev 1 board. I spent months trying to get Video In to work and never had any sucess. I went to Rev C rom, which had other advantages, but no luck. I added video memory, which didn't help either and I didn't need since I had a pretty good ATI card. I suspect it needs a Rev 3 board with the more advanced video chip. It may also require the presence of a DVD capable drive, but I can't see why. But with Apple, you never know. I tried all versions of OS, Quicktime, including Pro versions, and got original master install disks for the A/V versions of my machine. I spent months searching the web for answers to how to get the thing working and still don't know what that perch card requires to digitize video. But the whole thing is moot since DV. You'd be better spending your time and money on a Firewire card. Then get something that will digitize video in DV stream format. It is much better technology than the old Wings cards. I bought a Canon ZR40 camcorder which is a pretty neat machine for just over $500. It has the capability to digitize analog video in real time, so I can convert my HI8 tapes and edit them in IMovie. The whole DV system is wonderful. I've been astounded. I don't know which G3 machine you have, but you'll need something over 300mhz to use IMovie. It's an easy upgrade and very worthwhile. Apparently IMovie uses Altivec, so a G4 zif upgrade (mine was $200) is worth the investment. This is more than you probably ever wanted to know. But I was burned by that DVD personality card, which I've kept only for it's reputedly better audio than the original audio personality card. Maybe I've saved you some trouble.
