Despite my attempts to get a universal install of OS 9, I wound up with an
iMac version. I'm trying to install on a G3/266 with 160MB ram. It's
currently running OS 8.5. When I try to install, I get a message that says
"This software won't run on your computer. See documentation for further
details." Nothing in the documentation on the CD mentions this error
message. I can use Disk First Aid to look at my hard drive & it doesn't see
any problems. I think this disk is set up for HFS and not HFS+. It seems
to be a WDC apple branded drive.

Is this one of those crippled OS versions that will only run on the iMac?
Am I just SOL with this install or are there any workarounds that will let
me install it. With an older Mac, I would likely try to move the old Finder
& System file out of the System folder & copy the newer version in. I'm not
sure that I can do that with this model of Mac and I don't have the OS 8.5
disk to reinstall if I screw up. (I could, however, copy the system folder
over to an external hard drive.)

Advice, please. This isn't making me feel all warm & cozy about Apple.
