My Beige G3 DT unexpectedly froze will starting up, and the next few
restarts I tried had it starting up from the slave drive (IDE bus 1
master) instead of my master (IDE bus 0 master). Thought my master
drive (Maxtor 40GB) might have gone south, as the system profiler
indicated that the only device that was attached to bus 0 was my CD-RW
drive (bus 0 slave).
After removing my slave drive and switching my master in its place, the
bootup was fine and everything seemed to be in good order. My question
is whether this is due to a bad IDE cable. The problem of IDE cables
being of a certain specification has come up on the list before, so I'm
wondering whether my problem is due to using the wrong kind of cable.
