I don't know the actual transfer rate figures, but you would definitely 
achieve a more reliable and faster burn. The best you'll get through 
USB is probably 4x, while firewire will allow that Lacie CDRW to let 
loose. Assuming, of course that your firewire ports are functioning 
properly- I think I've heard in the past about some B&W's having 
firewire issues. In any event, OS 9.1 is a much more stable operating 
system than 8.6, in my opinion. Aside from the CDRW issues, you'll 
benefit from moving up anyhow.

Shouldn't matter, but my rule of thumb is that the device should either 
be off or already on before the system boots up; that it shouldn't be 
powered on while booting.
