It sounds like the problem is not with Arial, but the Gilligan font. The
creator probably began with Arial as his template. It still identifies
itself as Arial (or has the same ID number), thus your system uses that
instead of the real one.

Don't know how to fix it, but try uninstalling Gilligan.
Amateur fonts are prone to problems like that.
