We use an OWC Mercury Pro, plextor, external CD-RW with 10.2.1 on the junior grade daughter's iMac with USB. Burns fine with Toast Titanium or Apple's DiscBurner. It is not bootable, nor does iTunes burning work with USB. On another mac with firewire it also burns from iTunes and is bootable with OS 9 and OS X.
