I just replaced my Quadra 950/601 PPC 80 MHz (OS 8.6) with a beige G3 233 (also OS 8.6). Life is good.
I have been having trouble installing one of the SCSI drives from my Quad in the G3. This Seagate ST32151N starts to run up, then down, then up again repeatedly and it beeps. The beeps get louder as the startup progresses and the drive never runs up completely. I have tried several jumper settings but nothing seems to make any difference. I have tried enabling termination at the drive and on the cable and both at the same time. I tried an old Apple ROMed Quantum in the same place on the bus and it worked fine. Is there a way to make this Seagate drive work with my new Mac? Thanks, Hardy Menagh, Hardsdisk Ltd., a branch of the Abandoned Computer Shelter.
