First, the fact that the ram works under 9 is no guarantee that is is 
really "good." OSX (and Unix in general) is much more finicky.
Second it is always best to disconnect/remove all periphery during 
installation: the additional display card, the SCSI card etc.. Install 
onto the bare machine. Once X is running, you can put the other things 
back in, and they will be recognized. 

I run 10.2.3 on a Rev2 BW/400  with no trouble at all.
