Tina:

        I don't know if anyone has responded to this. Apparently what is 
happening (in my opinion) is the drive heads are parking/unparking to 
save power. There's a little thing called APM Tuner (Apple Power 
Manager Tuner) that allows you to change the hard drive sleep settings. 
I had success with it on my iBook. Some drives are worse than others.
