Hello Chris: I'm late getting into this thread, being in digest mode. If you are focused on a good OS X capability, and if you can possibly stretch your budget for a refurbished iMac, you will be happier. Look at Small Dog Electronics, one of the sponsors of this list. They have a couple at $630 and $750 US at the moment. They likely include OS X and the usual iMac consumer software bundle. You may need to add memory.
If OS X is just an idle consideration and OS 9 will do your wife's work for three or four years, the beige G3 looks OK except for the price. But you have to judge your local market. That beige G3 on the shelf is barely capable of working applications with OS X. Add $130 US for that. Are there applications already on board come with licensed media? And do they match the software bundle you get with a refurbished iMac? Look at the Apple web site and search for Macintosh User Groups. You may find a local one with a member or two willing to sell you their old Mac out of their closets after buying a new one. Or at least get some good, local advice. Finally, what about taking a trip to Seattle? Chris Chong <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > Hi there. I'm new to the list. I've got a G4 TiPowerbook for work, but I > also need a Mac for home.
