Microsoft runs extensive support info online. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;EN-US;oex
gives you the Outlook Express Support Center. You can query the search box for things Macintosh to narrow down the offerings. At http://support.microsoft.com/newsgroups/default.aspx?ICP=GSS3&NewsGroup=micr osoft.public.internet.mail&SLCID=US&sd=GN&id=fh;en-us;newsgroups you can pose specific questions. You can create any number of folders and subfolders. Use the Outlook Express Help for the procedure. My folders appear between Deleted Items and Address Book in the left column. > > Is there any way to save all the email from a given mailing list as, say, a > big Word document? (*when I go to the Save As item in OE 5, the only options > I get are to save as an OE document or a Simpletext document). I do not think so. To put specific items into my AppleWorks, I simply copy/paste. > > Ideally, for simplicity's sake, I wouldn't mind being able to take a folder > or sub-folder and save it as an individual file, in Word, for example, and > then stuff it and back it up on a separate HD or CD-R. > > I guess the idea I had is more similar to Eudora, where you can make a > separate folder, in the Mail Folder (in Documents), for each mail list or > whatever; then you can save that folder simply by dragging and dropping it > to a separate backup area; you can even give it a different name; then when > you want to see your old messages, you just drag and drop the folder into > Eudora Mail Folder. This looks like you have limited disk space. If not, just let your folders grow where they are. If the idea is to archive items from an e-list, such as a thread on one subject, I "Forward" a the first message, using no address, and Save as Draft. As additional items of the thread arrive, I open the draft item and copy/paste the new items into the bottom of the window. When the thread has run its time, I can put it into a subject folder, still in OE, or save it to the hard drive in SimpleText or AppleWorks (copy/paste). If the idea is to back up your mail items, I simply copy the entire Identities Folder to another volume. I have copied Identities Folders between computers and have no trouble opening the mail folders within with the OE on the guest computer.
