Here's something curious I don't get. I'm trying to install OS 10.1.4 on my
G3 Desktop. I'm using the original Apple 4 gig drive. (I've replaced it
with a WD 100 gig, but for the purpose of trying X, I've pulled it out and
reinstalled the 4 gig). I get as far as the select destination disk, but I
have no choices other than the dimmed OS X cd image. I've tried
reformatting the drive into 2 partitions, but no change. For some reason it
doesn't see the Apple 4 gig drive. To get out of this I have to select quit
and hold down the option key to restart in OS 9. If I don't hold down the
option key I restart and get to a gray screen- nothing else- no cursor no
beach ball, nothing. OK, Here's the curious part: When I pull the 4 gig
drive (I'm shut down of course), reinstall the 100 gig and restart, if I
don't hold down the option key I still come up to the gray screen! How can
this be? The other drive is not even in the machine! I don't get it!
What's up with either of these problems? Thanks for any help/advice. M
