I have two Apple Desktop Bus Mouse IIs which stutter in spite of several
cleanings of the rollers and balls as described by Apple literature. I want
to take the clamshells apart to get at whatever fuzz and dirt might be
hidden from view.

In the ball cavity there are two prongs which appear to hold the two halves
together. Yet, pushing the prongs back does not let the halves break apart.

As an alternative, is there a recipe for roughing up the ball so the rollers
get a better grip?

What's the magic key, or do I kiss these mice good-bye?
