Thomas: I have set up my home network once with an Asante hub, now using both an Asante router and a hub. I assume you want only one Mac to access the internet via some kind of modem, so a hub suffices. I do not know about the printer. Does it have an ethernet card?
For the Macs, basically the steps are to connect each via ethernet cable to the hub. Depending on your OS level, in OS 9 and prior, there are a number of control panels involved. For OS 9 and a few earlier versions, configure AppleTalk to Ethernet. Configure File Sharing, including Users & Groups which is either a tab in File Sharing or a separate CP. Leave TCP/IP on the Mac with the modem/internet alone. In OS X, I understand all this is quicker and easier, again look in the Finder Help and Apple's web site. Resources for more detail include: Apple's web site, the Mac Network e-list at Dan Knight's lowendmac.com, your own Mac's Finder Help where recent versions walk you through the process. Start with keywords like "network" to get to the right help windows. Also, there are web sites, including your hub's vendor, which are excellent. http://www.threemacs.com./network/index.html http://www.mac512.com/index.html http://www.knowledgehound.com/topics/networks.htm Thomas Ethen <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > I expect that this is a simple question to most of you, but here goes > anyway.
